Guess you wont be seeing him in the halls of JGSOM.

or her.

The School of Management has reissued a memo regarding the dress code to be observed.
This has been implemented for quite some years now, but they nonetheless sent an email to remind us all that:

"Inappropriate attire would include (but not restricted to) the following:
1) Slippers(i.e. footwear that is open-toed and does not have a back strap or heel, including beach rubber slippers, and bedroom slippers)
2) Strapless, backless or belly-baring blouses, blouses with spaghetti straps or plunging necklines
3) Athletic shorts
4) Micro-mini skirts, short shorts, low slung pants (especially those that may result in exposed underwear), skirts with very high slits
5) Tank tops, muscle shirts, wifebeaters, half-shirts"

My take on this?
Very Good. I tend to sway towards the conservative
when it comes to these things. A sense of decency is not too much to ask for.

JGSOM DRESS CODE REMINDERS

MEMO To: All faculty, students, and staff of the John Gokongwei School of Management
FROM: Rodolfo P. Ang, Dean
DATE: December 9, 2003
RE: Dress Code for the John Gokongwei School of Management

This dress code will be fully implemented by 1 January 2004, and will apply to all students ( male and female) who:

1) are enrolled in any classes offered by the John Gokongwei School of Management
(whether they are enrolled in any of our degree programs or not)
2) would like to transact business with any faculty , administrators, or staff of the John Gokongwei School of Management, whether in the JGSOM Faculty Room, or any of the offices of the JGSOM;
3) would like to attend any functions organized by JGSOM, including (but not limited to) registration, batch meetings, public lectures, examinations, and symposia, unless otherwise specified for the particular activity.

Dress Code Guidelines:

For MALE students, the following attire is considered appropriate:

1) Shoes and sandals, including rubber shoes and sneakers
2) Shirts with sleeves (with or without collar)
3) Slacks, jeans, or walking shorts

For FEMALE students, the following attire is considered appropriate:

1) Shoes or sandals, including rubber shoes and sneakers
2) Shirts or blouses that are sufficiently modest (with or without sleeves, with or without collars)
3) Slacks, jeans, skirts or walking shorts

Inappropriate attire would include (but not restricted to) the following:

1) Slippers(i.e. footwear that is open-toed and does not have a back strap or heel, including beach rubber slippers, and bedroom slippers)
2) Strapless, backless or belly-baring blouses, blouses with spaghetti straps or plunging necklines
3) Athletic shorts
4) Micro-mini skirts, short shorts, low slung pants (especially those that may result in exposed underwear), skirts with very high slits
5) Tank tops, muscle shirts, wifebeaters, half-shirts

The above guidelines will clearly not be able to cover all eventualities. Whenever gray areas are encountered, we hope that all individuals will be able to consider the spirit of the Dress Code, rather than the letter of its law.( We do not, for instance, expect to get into any discussion as to whether or not bare feet are acceptable.)

Sanctions for Non-Compliance

Students who do not comply with the dress code should be:

1) sent out of class and marked absent for that session. If an examination or graded exercise is scheduled for that day, the student should not be allowed to take the exam or perform the exercise, and should not be given the opportunity to make up for it.

2) disallowed from entering any of our offices and transacting business with any of our faculty or staff. Neither faculty nor staff should transact business with students who are not appropirately attired, whether inside or outside our offices or classrooms (i.e., not even in the corridors).

3) disallowed from participating in any of our official activities (including registration), unless a different dress code has been explicitly designated (e.g. for a sportsfest)
