Ever been to Crescent Moon Garden in Antipolo?
Since I'm not from that area, it took many a detour
and lots of confusion before we were able to find the place.
Seems its hidden within a side road down a steep cliff
just after Robinson Homes.
We went there for the said organic fare (as mentioned in an article in Real Living mag).
Turns out, only the appetizer was organic. They served us freshly picked herbal leaves (I forget what it was called) that sort of reminded me of what witch doctors in the province would rub against their patients. It was laid in the middle of a tray with all sorts of condiments like crushed peanuts, garlic-in-soy-sauce, toasted dessicated coconut, tiny tiny salted dried shrimp, and whatmore. Sorry I didnt get to take a snapshot.
To eat it, you wrap these condiments with the leaf, which had a fuzzy, furry texture like the skin of a peach. The taste is earthier (think soil) almost similar to chili pepper leaves (dahon ng sili) than the regular romaine lettuce.
That, and the squash cream soup with cutlets of fat coconut meat, scored some good points with my picky palate.
What seemed to be a unique dining affair was spoiled by the main course.
They served ordinary canton egg noodles, rice, an oily rendition of chicken curry, and some mediocre beef salpicao (which was oily too). Needless to say, it was way below base expectations.
We couldnt do anything about it because there were no menus. You go in and they serve you with their set menu prepared for the day. Ho-hum.
The best part? the ambience. It was a clear respite from the city, with a garden of lush greens surrounding 2 huge ponds of very very soothing koi fish.
When I get old and build a house of my own, I'm going to grow a garden with a 6-ft deep pond full of Japanese Koi fish.
